A Lagos State Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ebute Meta, on Monday remanded a former policemen, Joseph Oriyomi, in the custody of the Ikoyi Correctional Facility for allegedly shooting a housewife to death.
Oriyomi allegedly shot the housewife, Temilorun Obasa, 45, to death while dispersing some youths during a communal clash between Ilaje and Ajah communities, in Lagos.
The police prosecutor, Insp. Oladele Adebayo had told the court that the defendant committed the offence on December 31, 2019, at 3 p.m., in the Ajah area of the state.
Adebayo alleged that during the protest, Olatunji fatally gunned down Mrs Obasa, in a bid to disperse the crowd.
The accused person is charged with murder.

But is plea was not taken by the court because it is not constitutionally empowered to try the offence of murder.
But Chief Magistrate O.O. Olatunji, ordered the police to send the case file to the State Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.
The Magistrate then adjourned the case untill February 27 for mention.
