Navy Personnel Stab ASP To Death In Lagos, Passersby Injured

There was pandemonium at the Satalite Area of Lagos at the weekend as a Navy personnel stabbed an Assistant Superintendent of Police to death.

The clash between the two security agencies, had many people injured as the angry Naval personnel attacked passersby who tried to mediate.

An eye witness, Steven Ogbodeto, a commercial bus driver, told journalists, that while on operation at the Oluti area of Abgboju, he saw a police patrol team arguing over an undisclosed issue with some Uniformed Navy officers, so we stopped to see if we could wade in and settle the dispute , but the Naval personnel went wild as they started fighting the policemen.

“The Naval personnel were on two motorcycles, and they were four in numbers. During an argument with the police, one of them slapped a policeman, who retariated.

“The Naval personnel ,who were armed with Jack knives descended on the policemen and other passersby who tried to mediate.

”They stabbed many people, while some of the policemen, and other victims were bleeding, we took to our heels , because the Naval personnel were ready to kill anyone on sight.

“Immediately, shop owners started closing down shops. Vehicle owners abandoned their vehicles and scamper for safty.

“We later reconvened when we saw other police patrol vehicles at the scene. We saw them arresting two Naval personnel, and impounding their Motorcycles, while the injured Policeman and other victims were rushed to the hospital”.

A Police officer who spoke on the condition of anonymity as he was not authorised to speak with the journalists, said, ”while at the Satalite Police Station, someone made a distress call that Navy and Policemen were fighting at the Oluti area of Satalite.

“We raced to the scene; on getting there, we saw that four Naval personnel attacked our men, they were on two motorcycles. They attacked our officer on Anti Traffic Robbery patrol.

“The Naval personnel sttabed our men with Jack knives. We were able to rushed our men and three other passersby to Adeyemi private hospital, but ASP Abion Hezikel, could not make it as he was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.

“Anyway, the other officers and three passersby who were so stabbed were treated and discharged.

“Two of the naval personnel have been arrested while two other are at large, but we have reported the incident to to Military authority, to enable them release other two fleeing personnel of the Navy.

“The Officers who attacked our men were later identified as Serial number: 20507 Onyekachi Egwumain, 27 years, 16933 Ebubechukwu Growth, 28 years, and two others on the run attached to Nigeria Navy Central Pay office, Apapa.

Lagos State Police Publlic Relations Officer (PPRO) SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the attack on policemen on duty, adding that the case was under investigation, and has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Panti , Yaba Lagos, while the deceased body has been deposited at a public Mortuary in Yaba Lagos.

He said that the family of the deceased Policeman has been duly contacted about the tragedy.
